general program questions
- Thermostats: Before a peak, your thermostat may pre-heat your home by 1-2°C to ensure warmth during the event. During the peak, the thermostat reduces the temperature slightly to help conserve energy without affecting your comfort.
- Hot Water Tank Controllers: Instead of pre-heating, these controllers monitor the water temperature in the tank. During an event, the controller avoids using electricity until the water temperature drops below a preset level (typically 45°C), ensuring minimal impact on the availability of hot water for your home.

- To make it easier to participate, we’ve partnered with the Yukon government to offer rebates on eligible devices. Our Peak Smart Home rebates are among the highest in Canada for similar programs, covering up to 75% of eligible purchase and installation costs for qualifying devices, up to $750 per device type. This means you could receive up to $1,500 in rebates for installing both thermostats and a hot water tank controller. Visit our Rebates page to learn more and apply today!

Peak Smart events
A "Peak Smart event" is when a temporary, short-term adjustment is made to the settings of participating devices, like thermostats and hot water tank controllers, to help reduce electricity demand during periods of high usage. These events are scheduled when the demand for electricity is expected to spike – such as on cold winter mornings or evenings – or when the availability of power is limited (ex., if one of our generating stations is offline). Peak Smart events typically occur between October and April of each year but can occur year-round. These short, minor adjustments should have little to no impact on the comfort of your home, but they will make a difference in managing peak demand on the power grid.
- If you have devices from Sinopé, a banner will appear at the top of your screen in the NeviWeb app when a Peak Smart event is scheduled or ongoing. You’ll also see an “Eco” symbol on your thermostats during the event.
- If you have devices from Mysa, you can check your Mysa app to know whether you're currently in a Peak Smart event.
- All planned Peak Smart events will also be listed on our Peak Smart events page.
