"Peak Smart events" are instances when Yukon Energy makes small, temporary adjustments to the settings of participating devices, like thermostats.
We schedule Peak Smart events when the demand for electricity is expected to spike, like the mornings and evenings of particularly cold winter days, or when the availability of electricity is limited, such as if one of our generating stations is offline. We may also schedule events at other times to develop a clearer understanding of how different circumstances affect the peak reduction resulting from each event. Peak Smart events typically occur between October and April of each year but can occur year-round.
During a Peak Smart event, we will send a signal to participating devices to subtly reduce electricity usage. This helps us shift peak demand to avoid the need for additional electricity generation. You likely won’t notice any change to your comfort at home. And remember, you always have full override control to re-adjust your settings.
