"Peak Smart events" are instances when Yukon Energy makes small, temporary adjustments to the settings of participating devices, like thermostats.
We schedule Peak Smart events when the demand for electricity is expected to spike, like the mornings and evenings of particularly cold winter days, or when the availability of electricity is limited, such as if one of our generating stations is offline. Peak Smart events typically occur between October and April of each year but can occur year-round.
During a Peak Smart event, we will send a signal to participating devices to subtly reduce electricity usage. This helps us shift peak demand to avoid the need for additional electricity generation. You likely won’t notice any change to your comfort at home. And remember, you always have full override control to re-adjust your settings.
If you would like to be notified by email of planned upcoming Peak Smart events, please email the Peak Smart program at peaksmart@clearesult.com. Please note that in some cases we may need to run Peak Smart events on an emergency basis, in which case advance notice will not be available.
